Trincomalee sits around one of Sri Lanka’s great natural harbours and is surrounded by beautiful beaches, clear waters and fascinating cultural sites. Nearby Nilaveli and Uppuveli are known for their sandy shores and opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and exploring the surrounding waters. The city is also home to the spectacular Koneswaram Temple, dramatically positioned on Swami Rock above the ocean. The east coast is generally at its best from May to September, when Trincomalee and its surrounding beaches enjoy their drier season and calmer coastal conditions.
