Horton Plains National Park is a striking highland landscape of grasslands, forests, streams and mist-covered slopes. The popular walking trail leads to World’s End, a dramatic escarpment offering expansive views across the surrounding countryside when the skies are clear, followed by Baker’s Falls, one of the area’s most scenic waterfalls. The cool climate and high-altitude landscape make Horton Plains very different from Sri Lanka’s tropical lowlands, while the park also provides habitat for a range of endemic plants and wildlife. The period from January to March is generally considered the clearest and driest time for the World’s End trail, with early morning starts recommended to improve the chance of enjoying clear views.
