Tucked into a small bay on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, Hiriketiya combines tropical scenery with a relaxed and increasingly popular surf culture. Its horseshoe-shaped beach is surrounded by lush greenery, while the waves offer opportunities for surfing and lessons, particularly for beginners. Beyond the water, Hiriketiya has a laid-back atmosphere with cafés, local eateries and small wellness spaces woven into the surrounding landscape. The southern coast is generally at its best from November to March or April, while the bay can still be enjoyed outside the main season depending on local sea and weather conditions.
