Often referred to as “Little England”, Nuwara Eliya sits high in Sri Lanka’s central mountains, surrounded by rolling tea plantations, cool weather and beautifully landscaped countryside. The destination offers an opportunity to visit tea estates and factories, learn about the island’s world-famous Ceylon tea and enjoy scenic walks around places such as Gregory Lake and Victoria Park. The journey itself is part of the experience, with winding mountain roads and scenic train routes revealing panoramic views of the highlands. Nuwara Eliya remains cool throughout the year and can be visited at any time, although January to April generally brings more settled conditions for exploring the surrounding highlands.
