The Knuckles Mountain Range is one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular areas for hiking and nature exploration, named for the distinctive shape of its mountain peaks. Its landscape changes dramatically across forests, valleys, waterfalls, streams, remote villages and misty mountain ridges. Hiking here can range from shorter nature walks to more demanding treks, often accompanied by local guides who bring the landscape and its communities to life. The Knuckles region receives rainfall throughout the year, but February to April and June to September can offer useful windows for trekking, with conditions varying considerably across the mountain range.
